Advanced Karate Classes
ADVANCED CLASSES: These classes are for students who have been training for over 18 months yet, NOT yet a Black Belt which is typically 3 to 4 years for children, 4 to 5 years for teens and over five years for Adults. The complexity of their knowledge base typically requires more time at each level of the advanced stage of their training. The technics they are learning our becoming more and more intricate as well as effective. The student has now become proficient in the self-defense that American Kenpo Karate is well known for around the world. Students continue to grow in their knowledge through learning more intricate forms and self-defense technics. They have now learned up to 6 Forms and have a base of between 24 to 36 self-defense technics. They have also become proficient at applying their knowledge. Most importantly they are now learning the the “whys” of Kenpo. They are growing in their understanding of “how” it all fits together.
We are introducing the anatomical, physics and how to effectively use their art if needed in a physical confrontation as well as how to avoid such through positive mental and emotional skills. They can defend themselves with skill if they must. They have also learned the basics of how to balance this knowledge with the responsibilities that go with knowing “more” than the average person on defending one’s self. They are also growing in how to set and achieve goals. They have also grown in how to concentrate, focus and achieve their goals. They have typically by this point discovered some additional interest in how to use their training for other interest such as school and sports as well as Martial Arts competition and demonstrations. We are also being introduced to the element of being a good role model. By becoming a member of the S.T.O.R.M. Team. S.T.O.R.M. is an acronym for Special Team of Role Models. These students assist the instructors in class. Needing to be prepared to teach make us better students and also introduces the concept of “giving back” by helping lower ranked students with their training. This is a great tool to keep our advanced students reviewing and practicing their lower belt material while expanding their new and more diverse material. In the final phases of advanced classes, the student is also preparing for becoming a Black Belt.
